However, he does a great job of showcasing who Morbius is and what his powers are going to be, reminding me of that 2005 film “Batman Begins.”
The scene where Michael mingles with the bats feels like a steal from “Batman Begins” when Bruce Wayne, as an adult, rises amongst the winged creatures to confront his own childhood fears.
Based on the Marvel Comics character Morbius the Living Vampire, the horror-based rogue was originally a foe of Blade and Spider-Man, but throughout comic book history has been known to switch allegiances between tragically flawed antihero to a villain – which on paper, mirrors Tom Hardy’s Venom nicely.
“Morbius” serves as another of Sony’s cinematic adventures after 2018’s “Venom,” following in the footsteps of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
But while Morbius is set up as a horror-thriller in the mold of Hollow Man or The Fly, it sharply pivots: this bloodthirsty monster who has just eviscerated ten men on screen is no threat but the heroic new face of Sony’s Spider-Man-less superhero movies, soon to hook up with Tom Hardy’s Venom.
I was hoping something would work as well as the Eddie/Venom relationship, but there was nothing there.

Chris Evans suffered through those first two “Fantastic Four” films, and then he gave us the best Steve Rogers we could ever have with the “Captain America” trilogy.
As a result, the whole movie quickly feels like a lost opportunity which makes “Blade: Trinity” seem more energetic in comparison.

Diretto da Daniel Espinosa (Child 44 – Il bambino numero 44 del 2015 e Life – Non oltrepassare il limite del 2017) e scritto da Matt Sazama e Burk Sharpless (già sceneggiatori di Dracula Untold, Gods of Egypt e Power Rangers), Morbius è decisamente un film debole, poggiato su un impianto estetico ben fatto, efficace e che sfrutta egregiamente slow motion, suoni tremanti, angoscianti e tutto il carrozzone, ma che dilania la pazienza dello spettatore quasi di più degli artigli del dottor Michael Morbius.
The intently formulaic origin narrative from writers Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless hits all the recognisable story beats, harking back to early superhero outings such as Daredevil and Ghost Rider , resulting in a film which feels made by committee simply to continue building Sony’s Sinister Six for their larger cinematic universe.
The cinematography, which is very good, is by Oliver Wood who lensed all three of the Jason Bourne films that Paul Greengrass directed, Bill And Ted’s Bogus Journey, Face/Off , and for the real horror heads, Neon Maniacs .
He appeared as J. Jonah Jameson in Sam Raimi’s trilogy and the MCU after making a cameo appearance in “Spider-Man: Far From Home” before getting his role extended in “No Way Home.”

Director Daniel Espinosa ( Life, Safe House ) has plenty of fun with the CGI, and while the facial morphing is mighty impressive, the increased battle sequences end up trending more toward soulless, Van Helsing -style gymnastics.
Channeling the energy of flat CGI-heavy early 2000s flicks such as Van Helsing , Morbius makes minimal effort to justify its existence beyond the obvious afterthought of tying it into a larger cinematic universe.
