As the Avengers and their allies have continued to protect the world from threats too large for any one hero to handle, a new danger has emerged from the cosmic shadows: Thanos. What critics say influenced Avengers: Infinity War
This is not a spoiler: “ Avengers: Infinity War ” contains the most dramatic cliffhanger of any major blockbuster since “The Empire Strikes Back,” and everything leading up to it is a marathon.
The ending of The Empire Strikes Back is frequently cited in this regard, but I could just as easily include several story beats in everything from Mad Max: Fury Road to The Last Jedi to Marvel’s own Black Panther as creating fantastical situations that nevertheless were grounded in real human feeling.
There are many reasons why “Infinity War” evokes “The Empire Strikes Back” – the cutting across multiple storylines, the darker tones of its story – and one of the main reasons is because it’s so accomplished and does what it sets out to do so well.
Infinity War is Marvel’s answer to Empire Strikes Back with our heroes facing off against overwhelming odds and the increasing sense that all hope is lost.

This is the It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World of Marvel movies, with Thanos subbing for Spencer Tracy.
The character and his movie – and it’s very much Thanos’ movie – lay waste to last year’s culmination of the DC Extended Universe, “ Justice League ,” and its similarly computer-generated baddie.
After all, the big DC team-up movie Justice League was not good, and the new Avengers shows it up in every respect: it’s a truly epic adventure, spectacular and wildly entertaining, with impressive CG characters, and a cast stocked with not six beloved superheroes but twenty.
I shouldn’t be surprised that “Avengers: Infinity War” is all that and more, but I am, especially after last year’s dismal “Justice League.”
Thor interacting with Rocket (voice of Bradley Cooper), who refers to the sentient raccoon as a squirrel, or Tony Stark/Iron Man trading insults with Dr. Strange, is one of the reasons the Marvel movies aren’t dark, leaden lumps like “Justice League” (and that’s painful to admit for this DC Comics fan).
Compare this to DC’s recent Justice League (2017) feature, which awkwardly introduced characters most of us couldn’t give a lick about meeting.
You don’t have to think back very far to Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (DC not Marvel, I know, I know) when it looked like Superman was done for at the end only to see his casket vibrating because…well, you can’t possibly kill off Superman.
Dave Bautista’s Drax alone gets more laughs here than the entirety of “Justice League,” a film famously “ punched up ” in an ill-fated attempt avoid the humorlessness of its predecessor “ Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice .”
That's why we keep being fed overstuffed movies like "The Amazing Spider-Man 2" in 2014, "The Avengers: Age of Ultron" in 2015, "Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice" and "Captain America: Civil War" in 2016 and "The Mummy" in 2017.
It’s all there, save for banter between Spider-Man and Star-Lord about Kevin Bacon’s dancing in Footloose.
Todo el trabajo me pareció muy reminiscente a The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers en la sensibilidad demostrada con los personajes y sus respectivos conflictos, y ni qué decir de los últimos veinte minutos, donde la película se pone conmovedora y portentosa de una forma insólita e inesperada.
The story this reminds me of the most, in a way, is The Lord of the Rings , and in movie terms, The Return of the King specifically (minus the multiple endings, although of course make sure you stay to the very end of the credits).
In the tradition of action sequels from The Empire Strikes Back to The Return of the King, the Russos drop us into a saga-in-progress with little buildup and practically no further explanation of who’s who among the heroes introduced in prior pictures.

Marvel’s cinematic branch has been steamrolling its way towards 2018’s inevitable roster shakedown since 2008’s Iron Man, nary a hiccup or roadblock to count (eh, The Incredible Hulk , Thor: The Dark World ).
