It’s a film the owes much to Kim Ki-young’s classic 1960s feature The Housemaid: a home invasion film inverted where the man of the house brings in a low-class woman to take care of his family’s day to day.
Taking cues from classics of domestic intrigue such as Kim Ki-young’s “The Housemaid” (1960) and Joseph Losey’s “The Servant” (1963), they send this domestic drama vaulting into satire, suspense, terror and full-blown tragedy.
Call them trash, exploitation, or B-movies, Kim's films been compared to the work of Douglas Sirk (Written on the Wind) and Nicholas Ray (Rebel without a Cause), both filmmakers who tried to introduce dark elements into standard soap opera plots.

Kim Ki-young’s The Housemaid (South Korea, 1960) is a classic of South Korean cinema but until Criterion released the film on disc in 2013 it was largely unknown (or at least unseen) to even the most dedicated cinephile apart from its inspiration for Im Sang-soo’s 2010 remake.
Back in 2008 and with the backing of Martin Scorsese, Cannes welcomed a special presentation of a digitally restored print of Kim Ki-young's original 1960 movie The Housemaid .
I have never seen the 1960 original film that Korean director Im Sang-soo’s The Housemaid is based upon.
