What critics compared The General to
Young Jake Thomas ("The Cell") is decent as the human sibling who returns home to find that he has a new brother and William Hurt ("Lost in Space," "The Big Chill") delivers another of his typical performances, but Brendan Gleeson ("The General," "Braveheart") is completely wasted as the lord of the aforementioned Flesh Fair.
The film has its moments--desolate scenes of England's capital and its surrounds impress (I was reminded of a British TV series from the '70s called "Survivors"), Brendan Gleeson ("Lake Placid," "The General") is always worth a look, and our heroine Selena (Naomie Harris) keeps her undercrackers on.
More interesting is Harris, who has a vibrant presence as Selena, and best of all is the usually excellent Gleeson (from John Boorman's "The General" and "Gangs of New York") as a staunchly paternal survivalist trapped in hell.
