Picnic at Hanging Rock (1975)

In the early 1900s, Miranda attends a girls boarding school in Australia. One Valentine's Day, the school's typically strict headmistress treats the girls to a picnic field trip to an unusual but scenic volcanic formation called Hanging Rock. Despite rules against it, Miranda and several other girls venture off. It's not until the end of the day that the faculty realizes the girls and one of the teachers have disappeared mysteriously.

The 1975 Australian film " Picnic at Hanging Rock " is also about a person consumed by a landscape.
The movie has been compared to Michelangelo Antonioni's " L'Avventura " (1960), a film in which a man's wife wanders away on an island in the Mediterranean, and is never seen again.
One of the girls is found about a week later, but the others are mysteriously lost forever, reminiscent of Michelangelo Antonioni's L'Avventura .
Antonioni's " Blow-Up " (1967) involves a body which may or may not be there, and a mystery that is never solved.
Nicolas Roeg's " Walkabout " touches on some of the same feelings as "Picnic at Hanging Rock."
