The design of Atlantis and the underwater kingdoms is gorgeous, with the bioluminescent environments and lavishly gaudy costume designs giving it a real “ Flash Gordon under the sea” vibe; seriously, this movie features dresses made out of jellyfish and henchman uniforms straight out of a series of Power Rangers , and yet it all somehow just works.
Some of the film’s fight scenes are truly impressive in nature, but others look lifted off a Power Rangers battle.
That angry son becomes the revenge-driven baddie Black Manta (Yahya Adbul-Mateen II), who looks a little too much like a Power Rangers sidekick in live-action and about whom the movie seems to forget entirely partway through.
Once Aqua put on his best Club Monaco jet-setting fit, the film really let’s go and somehow the same journey takes him through the Sahara, Italy, on a boat fighting Power Rangers demons and finally, a Crash Bandicoot level.
The director James Wan ("Saw," "The Conjuring," "Furious 7") has concocted an action-packed story that is partly a redemption tale and partly a coming-of-age story but with an entertaining low-stakes feel that can be best described as a mix between a "Power Rangers" movie and the classic 1982 Disney movie "Tron."

This movie will no doubt prompt comparisons to a "Power Rangers" episode or the next installment in Michael Bay's overwrought "Transformers" franchise.
Spare parts from Power Rangers, Transformers , Battleship , Tron , Real Steel and Godzilla form the bulk of director Guillermo del Toro’s big, beefy, brainless blockbuster.
They bite, they claw, they spray “Kaiju Blue” venom that burns through the Jeager’s metallic skin — it’s everything any kid from the ’90s who grew up on Power Rangers has been dreaming of since.
“Pacific Rim” is the worst yet, a “Power Rangers” on steroids with an inane plot, cliché-ridden dialogue, cardboard characters and stilted acting.

Diretto da Daniel Espinosa (Child 44 – Il bambino numero 44 del 2015 e Life – Non oltrepassare il limite del 2017) e scritto da Matt Sazama e Burk Sharpless (già sceneggiatori di Dracula Untold, Gods of Egypt e Power Rangers), Morbius è decisamente un film debole, poggiato su un impianto estetico ben fatto, efficace e che sfrutta egregiamente slow motion, suoni tremanti, angoscianti e tutto il carrozzone, ma che dilania la pazienza dello spettatore quasi di più degli artigli del dottor Michael Morbius.
