We have elements of this film that may remind some of I Know What You Did Last Summer, even down to the title that doubles as an entire sentence, but we also have a wry sense of humor that occasionally works its way throughout the film.
There’s Someone Inside Your House may not be quite as slick with the metafiction as Craven’s Scream , but we do get that vein of self-awareness at times, such as when Alex references I Know What You Did Last Summer during the big party.
The 90s were home to a specific breed of slasher with films like Scream (1996), I Know What You Did Last Summer (1997), and Urban Legend (1998) featuring intended targets who are both youthful and overly aware and themes that tease social commentary and a newfound morality.
And the streaming service’s latest, There’s Someone Inside Your House , is similarly indebted to films like Black Christmas , Haze , and I Know What You Did Last Summer , which it explicitly references.
That’s right, There’s Somone Inside Your House is basically I Know What You Did Last Summer , but the sins in question are football-team hazing, drug addiction, and somehow running a white supremacist podcast without anyone thinking that your voice might sound similar to the valedictorian of the local high school.

The homages to the '90s era of self-aware slasher movies, such as I Know What You Did Last Summer and The Faculty , can be seen throughout 1994.
“Goosebumps” this is not, “Fear Street Part One: 1994” gets the series off to a fun, blood soaked start, paying homage to the slasher films of the nineties (“Scream,” “Urban Legend,” and “I Know What You Did Last Summer”) and curating a solid foundation for the sprawling world-building set to take place in subsequent installments.
Kevin Williamson, screenwriter of Scream , clearly read his share of teen-courting paperbacks, including the one he adapted into I Know What You Did Last Summer .
It's serendipitous that the film opens in a mall with Maya Hawke from Stranger Things, a show that draws on artistic and narrative influences of the 1980s the way Fear Street honors I Know What You Did Last Summer, Scream, and other '90s horror hits.

Coming across like a MAD Magazine movie satire, except much, much filthier, "Scary Movie" is almost a scene-for-scene parody of "Scream," with the exception of an over-long sequence spoofing "I Know What You Did Last Summer" and another part that resembles the opening moments of "Scream 2."
Basically, the plot pretty much crosses the original "Scream" with "I Know What You Did Last Summer."
Wayans’s burlesque of Scream and I Know What You Did Last Summer gets laughs the old-fashioned way, by waving the facts of anatomy in your face–or, for that matter, dripping, spurting and expelling them.
"Scary Movie" doesn't offer twists or variations on the plot of "Scream" or "I Know What You Did Last Summer."

A morality tale about cyberbullying with shades of “I Know What You Did Last Summer” and “The Ring,” “Unfriended” should be applauded for addressing a very serious issue in today’s culture of anonymity-driven public shaming, but the fact that it’s surrounded by so much stupidity weakens its message.
