Then again, Sony Pictures CEO Tom Rothman previously oversaw production on the lowest common denominator nerd baubles of yesteryear like X-Men Origins: Wolverine while producer Avi Arad was producer on train wrecks of that era like Elektra and Ghost Rider, so perhaps it isn’t so surprising Kraven the Hunter feels like a throwback to the days where “fan service” was something done through gritted teeth.
If you told me that “Elektra” was the only superhero movie that Chandor had ever seen before directing this one, I would believe you without hesitation — if only because it might help to explain why all of the CGI in “Kraven” looks the same as it would have in 2005.
Before the film is over, we also see a series of human incubi straight out of the Alien series; a subterranean creature encounter that traces exactly the Return of the Jedi Rancor Pit sequence; the sinister-cropduster passage from North By Northwest; and even a reprise of the "creatures beneath the ice!" idea from The Thing and more recently from Smilla's Sense of Snow, pilfered I assume from the novel since no one in the natural or supernatural worlds seems to have seen that movie.
The screenplay is by Mark Steven Johnson—the fellow responsible for Daredevil (2003) and Elektra (2005).

I won't spoil all of them, but I will mention that when Jennifer Garner's Elektra pops up, this naturally affords the movie to make a Ben Affleck crack, which, of course, it does.
A young boy named Quinn visits his mother (Alice Krige, whom some may remember as the Borg queen in Star Trek: First Contact ) at an underground construction site in London, where her colleagues have inadvertently stumbled onto the lair of a hibernating computer-generated dragon.
They're an endearing pair on TV, and yes, they have good moments together in the film, like the bomb scene à la "Lethal Weapon" at the beginning of the film.
Rob Schmidt's Wrong Turn capitalizes on the infamy of "Home," a fourth-season segment of "The X Files" about an inbred clan that stores their amputee matriarch under a bed.
So, when you tell someone you're going to see a movie about Vikings fighting an alien, everyone chuckles, but cowriter (with his "Underworld: Rise of the Lycans" partner Dirk Blackman)/director Howard McCain's film isn't half bad, like "Reign of Fire" crossed with "Beowulf" spiced with a dash of "Alien."

There's no denying that the dragon in the film is one of, if not the best dragon to ever be used in a movie (sorry Dragonheart and Reign of Fire).
