What critics say influenced Send Help
…a scenario that's a blend of Misery, Horrible Bosses, and Triangle of Sadness…
…before eventually evoking Misery (1990) once Linda’s psychology is explored…
‘Survivor’ Meets ‘Misery’…
On the surface, Send Help can look like Misery meets Lord of the Flies.
“Send Help” goes down like a cocktail of ”Horrible Bosses”, “Castaway”, and “Misery” but seasoned with Raimi’s own special sauce.
…some have referenced Kathy Bates’ kneecap-hammering obsessive Annie Wilkes in Rob Reiner’s famed Stephen King adaptation, Misery.
…watches episodes of Survivor (oooh foreshadowing)…
Linda also happens to be obsessed with the reality TV perennial, Survivor, and is able to hold her own and then some in these forbidding climes.
It quickly transpires that Linda’s obsession with the TV show Survivor (something Bradley and his colleagues had mocked her for) has given her a set of valuable skills when it comes to living on a desert island.
This season on Survivor.
…works on research for her real dream gig: competing on Survivor…
…she sees him, Donovan and the other guys chortling over her audition tape for “Survivor,” which they’ve found on the web.
The movie then follows the plot of “Cast Away” and “Six Days and Seven Nights.”
…the way it blends Cast Away with Fatal Attraction makes for something effortlessly watchable…
So Send Help is The Collector meets Hell in the Pacific meets either film titled Castaway…
The material plays like Cast Away (2000) if Tom Hanks had been stranded with a bitchier Meg Ryan…
…the story is a delicious combination of elements from Cast Away (Linda also celebrates making fire)…
Borrowing familiar survival and psychological-thriller elements from “Cast Away” and “Misery,”…
…a scenario that's a blend of Misery, Horrible Bosses, and Triangle of Sadness…
…there are echoes of Ruben Ostlund’s blackly comic satire, Triangle of Sadness, in the way the obnoxious, entitled boss is suddenly dependent on someone he viewed as socially inferior.
…a blood-soaked survival tale which plays like a B-movie take on Triangle of Sadness.
“Send Help” (2026) is the mainstream horror take on “Triangle of Sadness” (2022).
…culminating in a climax that puts Triangle of Sadness’s to shame…

And like the original Evil Dead trilogy, he puts his lead actor through the wringer of mud, blood, and other goopy substances while they talk to themselves about their choices.
It is nowhere near as gleefully evil as the aforementioned film, and especially The Evil Dead…
Eagled-eyed viewers will also connect Linda to The Evil Dead‘s Linda, noting her eyeglass holder necklace resembling a magnifying glass pendant gifted by Ash.
There’s even a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it shout-out to “The Evil Dead” in “Send Help,”…
Send Help, directed by Sam Raimi (The Evil Dead), is a workplace dark comedy that plays with our expectations of deserted island horror.
…the most popular works are his iconic trilogies of Spider-Man and The Evil Dead.
And like the original Evil Dead trilogy, he puts his lead actor through the wringer of mud, blood, and other goopy substances while they talk to themselves about their choices.
No, this is the Raimi of Drag Me to Hell and Army of Darkness.
…the irreverent humor of Army of Darkness…
Not since Army of Darkness – which predates all of Gen Z, including me – has the impeccable maestro made an R-rated horror comedy.
And like the original Evil Dead trilogy, he puts his lead actor through the wringer of mud, blood, and other goopy substances while they talk to themselves about their choices.
Whereas he was once a pioneer of practical-effects grotesqueries with the likes of Evil Dead II…
The atypical story structure of Evil Dead II…
…the camera is a little more sedate than the elasticised excesses of films like Evil Dead II or the underrated Darkman…
He’s not going as batshit as Evil Dead II (an admittedly high ceiling to break)…
Linda feels like she would have been right at home at the school lunch table with Tobey Maguire’s Peter Parker…
Whether it’s bizarre comedy, gory horror, a mix of both, or his take on Spider-Man…
Raimi hasn’t made anything of any real merit since the 2002 Spiderman movie…
…the earnest characterisations of Spider-Man Sam Raimi…
Stripped of superhero capes and chainsaw-laden spectacle, the director of The Evil Dead and Spider-Man drills into a small-scale tale of survival, tension, and twisted humour.
…the most popular works are his iconic trilogies of Spider-Man and The Evil Dead.
…more akin to Drag Me to Hell or even Darkman in its quirky, indie-inspired filmmaking…
…the camera is a little more sedate than the elasticised excesses of films like Evil Dead II or the underrated Darkman…
…a filmmaker long associated with such spectacle cinema as Evil Dead, Darkman, and something called “Spider-Man”…
Raimi uses the chaotic fun of “Drag Me to Hell” and the bare-knuckled tension of “A Simple Plan” to make his own kind of deserted island movie…
Raimi’s best work remains 1998’s A Simple Plan…
…the adult drama Sam Raimi who occasionally pops out to deliver gems like A Simple Plan…
…it was directed by Sam Raimi — he’s known for this stuff. But aside his body horror resumé he’s also directed one of my favorite films of all time, “A Simple Plan,” which was even and controlled.
Raimi has done far better thing than this (see: "A Simple Plan," a full-blown masterpiece…
Send Help feels closer in spirit to his mystical whodunnit from 2000, The Gift, than to chainsaws and boomsticks.
…the gentle creepiness of The Gift Sam Raimi…
…it’s akin to trying to convince audiences that Michelle Pfeiffer wasn’t attractive and would go unnoticed as Selina Kyle in Batman Returns (1992)…
…crafting an anti-hero in the vein of Michelle Pfeiffer’s Catwoman from “Batman Returns” (1992)…
I was reminded of Michelle Pfieffer’s Selina in BATMAN RETURNS.
…a scenario that's a blend of Misery, Horrible Bosses, and Triangle of Sadness…
“Send Help” goes down like a cocktail of ”Horrible Bosses”, “Castaway”, and “Misery” but seasoned with Raimi’s own special sauce.
Their power struggle sometimes plays like a popcorn variation on Lena Wertmüller’s Swept Away…
…a nice mix of the Hanks classic, along with SWEPT AWAY and MISERY…

He’s a Patrick Bateman type, smooth and soulless, eager to stomp on your feelings if it pleases him.
He’s almost as sociopathic as Patrick Bateman.
