He may have won his Oscar for Up, but I listen his retro, spy flick inspired The Incredibles score far more often.
Much like the relationship segment of "Up," Domee Shi tells the story of a lonely Chinese woman whose homemade bao turns into an adorable infant who grows into a rebellious young man in 8 minutes and does so with no dialogue.
Pixar films like Finding Nemo , Up , Toy Story 3 , and Inside Out deal directly with death and other very personal, deeply felt losses, from letting go of childhood to letting go of the possibility of motherhood.
But what sets “Incredibles 2” apart from the rest besides its box office dominance is its quality, instantly vaulting into the top five of Pixar Studios’ illustrious filmography rivaling “Up,” “Wall-E” and the “Toy Story” trilogy.
The highlights were sublime -- besides the Toy Story franchise, there were such divergently engaging and wonderful films as Up , The Incredibles , WALL-E , and my personal favorite, Ratatouille -- and even their lesser films, Monsters Inc. , Finding Nemo , A Bug's Life, had a great deal to recommend them.
Turning to the technical elements, the animation is fantastic and so too is the music score from Pixar stalwart Michael Giacchino ( Ratatouille , Up , Star Trek ).
That tint of ethical nostalgia is reminiscent of Spielberg, in his “Bridge of Spies” mode, and it consorts neatly with the decor of the new film.
With MPAA ratings unpredictable these days, PG rating oscillating between Incredibles 2 intense and Christopher Robin calm, having fully disclosed parent guidelines can be super helpful in determining if a movie is safe for your whole family to watch – and worth paying the extra $29.99 to see for Premier Access.
