What critics say influenced Daredevil: Born Again
The murder debate is getting less theoretical. It is very last season of “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” as the City is going out of control without Fisk (Vincent D’Onofrio) doing much since he set up a well-oiled machine of horribleness.
One of my pet peeves with the last season of “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” was that Sunnyvale was at the Hell Mouth, the locals figured it out, and there was a mass exodus.
Daredevil could be the equivalent of Buffy the Vampire Slayer for the disabled community.
Two other shows come to mind: The Penguin, for elevating comic book TV into something prestige-adjacent…
Born Again looks like it could be an even better crime saga than The Penguin.
We live in a world where HBO’s Watchmen exists, and we’re still rolling off a year that gave us The Penguin, which is just about the best possible outcome for a corporate mandate to make lemonade out of intellectual-property lemons.
Those who appreciated the grittiness of The Penguin will find something similarly dark and well-crafted here.
This scene definitely feels like the Daredevil homage to the Heat diner scene.
An early episode of Born Again features a Heat-style diner sit-down between Fisk and Matt…
…it’s one of the nail-biting coffee dates since Michael Mann’s Heat…
Again, better job than “One Battle After Another” (2025) in using an organizational surrogate instead of just being lazy and dressing people in fatigues and being vaguely military.
The best episode is Episode 3, which gave “One Battle After Another” (2025) a run for its money.
Hot off their mini “One Battle After Another” (2025) impression, Karen says, “We need an attorney to take a statement.”
It is “One Battle After Another” (2025) if it centered the undocumented immigrants and without the problematic Jezebel stereotypes.

If Andor was the unintended political drama capturing the zeitgeist of 2025, Daredevil Born Again Season 2 does the same for 2026.
Andor, for weaving real-world political tension into genre storytelling without flinching…
It could work, but it is feeling a little eight season of “Game of Thrones” for my taste.
There’s even a scene that’s as shocking as anything you’d see in Game of Thrones.
I was expecting to see some of the Defenders such as Jessica Jones or Luke Cage, or maybe even Spider-Man or the new Hawkeye, since New York City is their home, too.
The goal is to bring back old fans and recruit new ones who do not want to do homework although “Hawkeye” and “Echo” seem like requirements.
We learn that due to the events of Hawkeye, Wilson Fisk took some time away from his marriage with Vanessa.
…so Kevin Feige knew the potential to give them more than just cameos a la “Hawkeye” and “She-Hulk” was real.
If you have not seen “Hawkeye” (2021), “Echo” (2023), and “Ms. Marvel” (2022), you can probably get by without any problem…
If you want Fisk’s complete story, you will need to toss in “Hawkeye” (2021).
…another development that happens during the trial, which may remind you of an early MCU movie closing scene.
The first season of Marvel’s Daredevil was initially intended to be a single season that would lead into three other Hell’s Kitchen-set Marvel shows (Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist), before grouping them all together in The Defenders, like a TV version of the first Iron Man, Thor and Captain America movies culminating in The Avengers.
…adjacent to the burgeoning Marvel Cinematic Universe, but not too tied to it beyond vague references to the Battle of New York (as seen in 2012’s The Avengers)…

It rivals and beats The Raft from “Captain America: Civil War” (2016) in depicting a world where vigilantes are outlawed, and civilians are just as affected.
After “Captain America: Civil War” (2016) and “Avengers: Infinity War” (2018), I find myself flinching at the idea of child soldiers.
We pick up after the death scene with an Endgame style time jump, as the words “One Year Later” appear on screen in Matt Murdock’s new apartment.
It is the equivalent of “Avengers: Infinity War” (2018) and “Avengers: Endgame” (2019) on a smaller, quotidian scale, which makes it feel germane and will resonate with audiences.
After a long stretch of uneven MCU output following the Avengers: Endgame peak…

I kept having “Alice in Wonderland” flashbacks or horrific thoughts that they could be swingers with plans to invite Heather.
