What critics say influenced Karate Kid: Legends
…callbacks to both the original movies and the 2010 remake (“Jacket on, jacket off”)…
Viewers rarely saw Daniel build non-female friendships besides Mr. Miyagi in his trilogy of films (something Cobra Kai would rectify).
…guiños al remake de 2010…
Conor is a pretty generic bully villain and not nearly as memorable as previous Karate Kid antagonists like Johnny Lawrence or Mike Barnes.
It’s extremely unapologetic in how it rips off from The Karate Kid, from the evil Cobra Kai-like dojo and its ruthless sensei, to the mentor/mentee relationship…
Much like Macchio’s Danny LaRusso reluctantly relocated with his single mom from New Jersey to the San Fernando Valley in the 1984 original…
…her pappy’s bond with Li adds a “Rocky”-style edge to the franchise.

On Evans, rather than any one film
…moving like an action star straight out of a Gareth Evans flick…

Fight scenes, rather than flowing naturally, are hyper-edited and flashy, with visual flair reminiscent of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse or a Street Fighter video game.
It should be noted, the fights in this are infinitely better than something like Shang-Chi, that was attempting the same sort of tribute to Chan in terms of action as a storytelling vehicle, but I digress.
I said this when I reviewed Bad Boys: Ride or Die (2024): something is refreshing about a franchise that knows what it is…

One fight move seems stolen straight out of Shaw Brothers territory or, more recently, Soi Cheang’s Twilight of the Warriors: Walled In…
It's the same as every other studio flick you see these days, from The Amateur to the most recent Captain America.
