The Karate Kid (2010)
Directed by Harald Zwart
influenced Karate Kid: Legends (2025)

…callbacks to both the original movies and the 2010 remake (“Jacket on, jacket off”)…
Viewers rarely saw Daniel build non-female friendships besides Mr. Miyagi in his trilogy of films (something Cobra Kai would rectify).
…guiños al remake de 2010…
Conor is a pretty generic bully villain and not nearly as memorable as previous Karate Kid antagonists like Johnny Lawrence or Mike Barnes.
It’s extremely unapologetic in how it rips off from The Karate Kid, from the evil Cobra Kai-like dojo and its ruthless sensei, to the mentor/mentee relationship…
Much like Macchio’s Danny LaRusso reluctantly relocated with his single mom from New Jersey to the San Fernando Valley in the 1984 original…

…hasta incluyendo un par de referencias a la popular serie “Cobra Kai”…
Funny how a Sony movie — 22 Jump Street — made fun of the kind of movie Sony would eventually make 10 years later with Karate Kid IP.
Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018)
Directed by Bob Persichetti
influenced Karate Kid: Legends (2025)
Visuals
Fight scenes, rather than flowing naturally, are hyper-edited and flashy, with visual flair reminiscent of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse or a Street Fighter video game.
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (2021)
Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton
influenced Karate Kid: Legends (2025)
Visuals
It should be noted, the fights in this are infinitely better than something like Shang-Chi, that was attempting the same sort of tribute to Chan in terms of action as a storytelling vehicle, but I digress.
I said this when I reviewed Bad Boys: Ride or Die (2024): something is refreshing about a franchise that knows what it is…
Twilight of the Warriors: Walled In (2024)
Directed by Soi Cheang
influenced Karate Kid: Legends (2025)
Visuals
One fight move seems stolen straight out of Shaw Brothers territory or, more recently, Soi Cheang’s Twilight of the Warriors: Walled In…
It's the same as every other studio flick you see these days, from The Amateur to the most recent Captain America.
There are occasional gems like Ghostbusters: Afterlife (2021) and, now, Karate Kid: Legends.
A week ago, I sat through The Last Rodeo, another wholesome sports movie with an underdog plot and predictable story beats.
…and the forthcoming live-action How To Train Your Dragon remake…
