The Reckoning (2004)

In 14th Century England, this tale of murder and mystery follows a fugitive priest who falls in with a troupe of actors. As they arrive in a small town, the actors encounter a woman being sentenced to death for practicing witchcraft and murder. Discarding the expected bible stories, the actors now stage a performance based on the crime. Through the performance of the play, they discover a mystery.

Right here, the shoddy screenwriting becomes apparent, as Danny identifies this guy, who Europol has been investigating for years, as Baron François Toulour (Vincent Cassel, "The Reckoning"), completely out of the blue.
Paul McGuigan ( Gangster No. 1 , The Reckoning ) directs this slick con game, which works for large portions, not because of brains, but thanks to its color and style.
McGuigan worked wonders with the gritty British gangland movie "Gangster Number 1" (2000) but seemed to lose his way on his next two genre disasters "The Reckoning" and "Wicker Park."
