What critics compared Lethal Weapon 4 to
That could have been material for a thoughtful update to these characters – even Lethal Weapon 4 took this idea with more wit and care – except the script treats the “Bad boys for life” code as a personality trait.
While “Lethal Weapon 4” kind of poked fun at Riggs and Murtaugh directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah manage to show the pair here at a crossroads in their lives where they don’t think jumping in to a hail of bullets is fun anymore.

The rival talking animal banter reminds me of the confrontations between Chris Rock and Joe Pesci in Lethal Weapon 4 (I’m not sure if that’s the best example).

By the time it goes bigger and wilder for an anarchic, apocalyptic finish, it feels less like a 21st-century modification of the parade in “National Lampoon’s Animal House” and more like something out of “Lethal Weapon 4.” In other words, trying too hard.
Of course, the performers are secondary to the action and Cohen, stunt coordinator Mic Rodgers ("Payback," "Lethal Weapon 4"), cinematographer Ericson Core ("Payback," "187") and editor Peter Honess ("L.A. Confidential," "The Next Best Thing") have obviously put a great deal of time and effort - but not a great deal of logic - into staging the various stunts and action sequences.
McKay has hired the behind-the-lens crew of an action film, not a comedy (cinematographer Oliver Wood shot all three of the " Bourne " films; stunt coordinator Conrad E. Palmisano has worked on everything from " X-Men 3 " to " Lethal Weapon 4 "), and while we never think of "The Other Guys" as an action film, the action in it is smooth and crisp and competent.
Marking the American feature film debut of Hong Kong director/choreographer Cory Yuen (who staged the fight sequences in "Lethal Weapon 4" and "Romeo Must Die"), the film is not without its share of problems.
