Young teen Mikey Walsh and his friends set off on a quest to find Pirate One-Eyed Willie's treasure in hopes of saving their homes from demolition. However, on their quest to find the treasure, they run into a family of recently escaped criminals, determined to capture the kids and reach the treasure first.

He re-creates Errol Flynn's splendid slides down a sail from The Seahawk (which in turn was inspired by Douglas Fairbanks' similar feat in The Black Pirate.
Its story is simply an updating of the cave sequences from The Adventures of Tom Sawyer.
There are lots of special effects and among the set pieces are the same kinds of booby traps that Indiana Jones survived in " Raiders of the Lost Ark " (falling boulders, sharp spikes), and a toboggan ride on a water chute that will remind you of the runaway train in " Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom ."
As noted above, the Goonies, as played by young Cohen, Huy-Quan, Sean Astin and Corey Feldman, come off as sensible and likable kids, not the depraved sex maniacs of Animal House or Porky's.

Jonathan Ke Quan had just starred as the engaging little-boy sidekick opposite Harrison Ford in the blockbuster Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom , and it's easy to pigeonhole The Goonies as much the same material, with less onscreen gore and pitched more obviously at the elementary-school and junior-high audience.
