What critics compared Clash of the Titans to
Director Chris Columbus and his crew take a literal approach to spectacle that denies the magnificent use of weirdness and scale that famed stop-action animator Ray Harryhausen brought to such myth-inspired classics as "Jason and the Argonauts" (1963) and "Clash of the Titans" (1981).
And he has to, because the pair’s script is rather laughable, a melodramatic hodgepodge of ideas liberally borrowing from influences as varied The Lord of the Rings trilogy, Star Wars , Flash Gordon , Raiders of the Lost Ark , Cleopatra and any number of Ray Harryhausen event spectacles ranging from 1958’s The 7th Voyage of Sinbad , to 1963’s Jason and the Argonauts , to 1981’s Clash of the Titans .
Experiencing the shot-in-Sydney Gods Of Egypt is a bit like watching Jason And The Argonauts (1963) or Clash Of The Titans (the 1981 original, not the remake), in that the action unfolds with a twinkle in its eye, and you’re either on board or you’re not.
This is framed like the early introduction to Medusa in the Ray Harryhausen classic Clash Of The Titans.
This isn’t Clash of the Titans, however…
The Northman ends up in the so-called ‘Gates of Hell’ for a sequence which takes itself incredibly seriously yet brings to mind memories of Harry Hamlin in Clash Of The Titans — precisely not what Eggers is aiming for.

As for that gauzy, goofy look at advanced life forms of the 24th century, it reminded me of the Olympus toga party in the 1981 “Clash of the Titans.”
"Immortals" was shot in 2D, but was always intended for a 3D post-conversion, which is more than could be said for the lifeless "Clash of the Titans" post-conversion.
Historically, such characters have been depicted using animation or puppets—think of the animated monsters in “Clash of the Titans” (1981), or the puppet Yoda in “The Empire Strikes Back” (1980).
…there were times when I felt like I was watching one of those Ray Harryhausen movies my parents showed me as a kid, like the Sinbad movies or 1981’s Clash of the Titans.
