What critics compared The Blood on Satan's Claw to
Aficionados may recall a few similar "folk horror" films, including some great ones ("The Conqueror Worm," "The Blood on Satan's Claw"), but the inspiration here is historical and literary: This is the old weird America of the Salem witch trials and of "Young Goodman Brown" and other supernatural stories by Nathaniel Hawthorne, who pioneered a particularly New England brand of terror.
