Hewing to a course already set by such classics as "The Miracle Worker," "My Fair Lady" and "Shine" - which, coincidentally, starred Rush as a troubled pianist on the verge of a comeback - "The King's Speech" features familiar scenes of defeat, the student's resistance, his ultimate surrender and final triumph.
These are movies that breathe, whereas in The Lighthouse, even the eruptions of violence have an air of rehearsed frenzy, like the sort of thing you’d encounter in a sturdy stage production of The Miracle Worker.
