What critics compared Old Yeller to
If you've seen "Marley and Me," "My Dog Skip" or "Old Yeller," you know the obligatory farewell pooch scene must come at some point.
“Old Yeller” was a piker compared to Lasse Hallstrom’s adaptation of W. Bruce Cameron’s popular book.
While not quite a dog, "A Dog's Purpose" fails to achieve the goal of a classic like "Old Yeller".
Unlike Marley & Me or Old Yeller , the latter of which is the far superior motion picture even if both tend to get mentioned in the same sentence, the dog at the center of all this fantastical melodrama doesn’t meet its end in some climactic way designed to resolve the story and tug at the heartstrings.
If you enjoyed the endings of "Marley and Me" and "Old Yeller," it may be comforting to know that "A Dog's Purpose" repeats the experience multiple times.
But anyone familiar with that tradition — I’ll mention “Old Yeller” and leave it at that — knows that stories of children and their pets are almost inevitably shadowed by tragedy and loss.
Millennials may not remember Lassie, Bambi, or Old Yeller, but their fond memories of, say, Nemo the cartoon fish predispose them to this sentimental provocation about a helpless animal endangered by the very capitalists who engineered him in the first place.
First, take the sort of animal-in-jeopardy story made to make young audiences (and adults with tender hearts) bawl their eyes out - "Charlotte's Web," maybe, or "Old Yeller" or "The Yearling."
Disney has a long history of dog movies – “Old Yeller” still gets you every time – and dips back into that well with “Togo,” a hard-to-resist movie for Disney+.
All I know is, the answer to that guy’s meme is Old Yeller.

Twohy manages some sudden shocks (helped by Tracy Adams’ editing and Graeme Revell’s big-bang score), and by and large proves more than adequate directing the action scenes, though his handling of the dialogue-driven interludes is pretty ham-fisted, and he and Diesel have a hard time wringing any emotion from an “Old Yeller” moment tossed into the mix.
The bond that grows between Hiccup and a fearsome dragon known as Night Fury is derivative of everything from Old Yeller to E.T., but it still works as well as it ever did.
And whether your point of reference is Cujo or Old Yeller, you know where this is going…
