I grew up on movies about King Arthur, Guinevere, Lancelot and the rest off the knights from the 1953 film “Knights of the Round Table,” “Prince Valiant,” “A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur’s Court,” and “Camelot” to John Borman’s 1981 sword and sorcery fest, “Excalibur.”
The closest Hollywood ever got to an Arthurian classic, which is not very, was Richard Thorpe’s 1953 Knights of the Round Table , a rather stolid but watchable affair starring Robert Taylor, Ava Gardner, and Mel Ferrer.
So much for all those legends we learned from Thomas Malory's immortal Le Morte d'Arthur (1470) and the less immortal "Knights of the Round Table" (1953).
If you're looking for something closer to the Arthur legends, or if you just want to see some old-fashioned knights in shining armor rescuing fair damsels in distress, you might consider John Boorman's excellent "Excalibur" (1981), the best of the lot; or "Ivanhoe" (1952), "Knights of the Round Table" (1953), "Prince Valiant" (1954), "The Black Knight" (1954), "Sword of Lancelot" (1963), "Lancelot du Lac" (1974), "Sword of the Valiant" (1982), "First Knight" (1995), "Dragonheart" (1996), the musical "Camelot" (1967), or even the zany "Monty Python and the Holy Grail" (1975).

Australian TV's Paul Hogan stars in this clever comic adventure, which blends the exotic joys of "Romancing the Stone" with the camp of "Tarzan's New York Adventure."
"Crocodile" Dundee succeeded where Tarzan the Ape Man and Greystoke: The Legend of Tarzan, Lord of the Apes failed because it remembered not only to keep in the vein of the archetypal Weissmuller-O'Sullivan Tarzans, but also to remake their funniest outing (Tarzan's New York Adventure). 1 What the modern reboot industry doesn't get is that while audiences love being told the same stories over and over again, a brand name just as often represents the baggage of legacy as it does credibility.
Marshall quotes from Pennies from Heaven, too (Gere�s striptease in "All I Really Need Is Love" is a nod to Christopher Walken as the tap-dancing pimp), and Gold Diggers of 1933 and Jailhouse Rock (together, in the knockout "Cell Block Tango" sextet, where Roxie�s jailmates sing the stories of the homicides that landed them in the clink).
And “Cell Block Tango,” a larger-than-life tune showcasing the various women inmates, pumps and grinds with a spot-on intensity that actually manages to out-do the title dance number in “Jailhouse Rock.”
It nods to various influences, from “Night Must Fall” to “Whatever Happened to Baby Jane?," and rolls on.

The film is so brutal it sometimes makes HBO's "Oz" seem like "Jailhouse Rock."
Besides that fantastic scene where Lange begs for mercy from the Lava Flow producers, Lange has a great, throwaway moment where she has to describe the "plot" of "Jailhouse Rock" for Jack Fate, who's been assigned to perform the song during the telecast.
Sailor's snakeskin jacket is straight out of Tennessee Williams, and Cage's performance is pure "Jailhouse Rock."
Every time I pop the movie in, it feels like I'm slipping into an great old pair of slippers -- and woe is the poor fool who tries to get me on the phone or drag me out of the house before the "Jailhouse Rock" finale pipes through my speakers.
The picture opens with Clarence (twice) delivering a monologue about Jailhouse Rock, which serves as an excuse to have a spectral Elvis (as played by a barely glimpsed Val Kilmer) appear to Clarence as...what?
