I found it to be far too much Bollywood and far too little - except conceptually - of Jane Austen's "Pride and Prejudice."

A cross-cultural adaptation of Jane Austen's "Pride and Prejudice" set in modern-day Bombay, London and Los Angeles, this is a trite, flimsy, groundless romance of shallow character stereotypes, ethnic hypocrisy, and horrible songs.
There was great joy in Philip Seymour Hoffman as Lester Bangs in “Almost Famous” craving for the raw power of the Velvet Underground: “Gimme some ‘White Light/White Heat!’”
Reminiscent of Cameron Crowe’s Almost Famous , the strength behind Blinded by the Light is the music – in this case, it’s ‘The Boss’ leading the way.

Chadha is best known for the 2004 adaptation of “Pride and Prejudice” and the 2002 family sports film, “Bend It Like Beckham,” the only feature film to be distributed in every single country on the planet.
This Elizabeth is played by Keira Knightley, who's become British film's No.1 girl since she got her first break as the heroine's best friend in Bend It Like Beckham.

Plot
All great respect to Ms. Austen and her classic novel, but we’ve seen so many film and television adaptations, not to mention modern twists such as “Bridget Jones’s Diaries” and the web series “The Lizzie Bennet Diaries,” and the Bollywood gem “Bride & Prejudice,” and the time- travel-themed “Lost in Austen” miniseries, etc., that if we MUST get another variation on the story, the weirder the better.
It helps enormously that Jane Austen’s romantic and comic novels are surprisingly sturdy beasts, regularly prompting great adaptations (Sense & Sensibility), witty updates (Metropolitan, Clueless), ethnic riffs (Bride & Prejudice, From Prada to Nada) and serving as a skeleton for other classics, too (Bridget Jones’s Diary).
1300 B.C. As he prepares to send his armies under the leadership of his son Ramses (Joel Edgerton, "Warrior") and his adopted nephew Moses (Christian Bale) to fight the Hittites, Egyptian Pharaoh Seti (John Turturro) gets a prophesy from his High Priestess (Indira Varma, "Bride & Prejudice," HBO's 'Rome') that a leader will be saved in battle and that savior will himself become a leader.
He frees Guinevere (Keira Knightley, "Pirates of the Caribbean," "Bend It Like Beckham"), an imprisoned Woad, and decides he will march the oppressed peoples away from the Saxons, whose drums can already be heard in the distance.
Even the first movie I saw her in, Bend It Like Beckham...that was really Parminder Nagra's movie; Parminder walked away with it.
The players have proved themselves performers in other films — Owen in “Croupier,” Gruffudd in cable TV's “Horatio Hornblower” series, Knightley in “Bend It Like Beckham” and “Pirates of the Caribbean” — but here they're adrift in a sea of droning blather.
After playing a tough character in Bend it like Beckham she was, taking nothing away from her performance in Pirates, the requisite "girl" in that film.
And oh yeah, Dupree's been brought in by corrupt lawyer Rip Reed (Jason Bateman, TV's "Arrested Development," hands down the most worthwhile thing about this over-orchestrated mess) who also calls in ex-cops 'Pistol' Pete Deeks (Peter Berg, "Collateral") and Hollis Elmore (Martin Henderson, "Bride & Prejudice").
Even in films centered on otherness, like Bend It Like Beckham, the white best friend is given equal space in the advertising of the film, and the original queer angle was written out in favor of a love triangle.
The very hot Keira Knightley (Bend It Like Beckham, Pirates of the Caribbean) also stars as a young bride who finally realizes why her new husband's best friend has been treating her so coldly; he's in love with her too.
We can understand why the poor guy would be in love with his friends wife simply because she is played by Knightley, who became everyones #1 crush after "Bend It Like Beckham" and "Pirates of the Caribbean".
