More time travel: It’s The Seventh Seal crossed with Naked Gun 33⅓ ; your boys are Step Brothers from other mothers.
The 1991 sequel, Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey, is best known for an extended parody of Bergman's The Seventh Seal, in which William Sadler played Death.
A couple of years later, “Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey” arrived but instead of merely rehashing the time travel jokes from the first film, it went off in wild new directions—at one point becoming an inspired parody of Ingmar Bergman’s “The Seventh Seal” as the two encounter the Grim Reaper (William Sadler) and challenge him to games like Battleship and Twister instead of chess—and wound up as a much funnier film than the first one.
Paul is arguably the best science fiction comedy since Galaxy Quest .
One problem is that a late appearance from sci-fi icon Weaver reminds us of Galaxy Quest, a genre comedy that used original humour to augment the spoof elements.
Its the difference between parody and tributebetween Spaceballs and Galaxy Quest .

Before Seth Rogen, Wayne’s World and even Bart Simpson, these two underachievers just wanted to have fun.
And as it happens, the night after the first movie’s premiere in February 1989, Saturday Night Live introduced a new pair of similarly dimwitted characters: Dana Carvey and Mike Myers as Wayne and Garth, hosts of the vapid public access show Wayne’s World .
The original Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure, from 1989, was a key part of the sort of dude humor that was prevalent at the time, along with the "Wayne's World" SNL sketches that were later adapted into their own movies.
I was never a huge fan of either of the films and preferred the somewhat similar shenanigans of Mike Myers and Dana Carvey in the "Wayne's World" flicks.
As directed by Stephen Herek, the movie is a masterful atemporal combination of 1985’s Pee-wee’s Big Adventure (outlandish whimsy), 1995’s Clueless (lovable SoCal dimwittery), 1982’s Fast Times at Ridgemont High (Bill and Ted are proudly devolved sons of Spicoli), and 2019’s third season of Stranger Things (big mall energy).
It also recalls the much cleverer “Galaxy Quest,” as well as “Wreck-It Ralph,” which impressively invented an original game with a retro 1980s feel.
Take the basic premise from Galaxy Quest but swap out Star Trek with retro video games, throw in some nifty special effects and what could possibly go wrong?
The answer to that is no as well as Pixels is a schizophrenic mess, in turns entertaining and annoying, as if Galaxy Quest had been made by people without any understanding of humor.
When Jason and his fellow actors get a first look at the actual, full-size, genuine spaceship the aliens have built in replica of the TV show's cardboard model Protector, the sequence is a shot-for-shot take-off of the similar scene in Star Trek: The Motion Picture, that long, slow, lovemaking pan around the ship in dock.

It's taken 29 years, but Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter have finally made a threequel to their much-loved hits, Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure (1989) and Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey (1991).
More frustrating, the overstuffed chain of events harkens closer to the weird 1991 sequel, Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey , than the spirited 1989 original, Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure .
It’s harder than ever to believe in the idyllic land of harmony foretold in Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure.
FREE GUY has a lot of similarities to Galaxy Quest (1999), in the ways it spotlights a fandom and lets us all in on the joke as a kind of celebration of the things we love (and obsess over).
By the end of the film she's got equal billing with her Wonderbra, much like Sigourney Weaver in Galaxy Quest .
The overlapping time loops and concentric logic holes that ensue would challenge even Bruce Willis’ character in Looper to illustrate them with diner straws.

Most sci-fi spoofs -- think Mel Brooks' 1987 debacle "Spaceballs" -- that have tried to do parodies of the "Star Wars" or "Star Trek" phenomena have fallen flat on their interstellar faces.
When all is said and done, Dean Parisot’s is pretty much an on the nose satire of William Shatner and his legacy with the “Star Trek” series but–wait–it also happens to be a rather entertaining spin on “Seven Samurai.”
When they meet creepy estate agent Martin, whose awkward unearthly smile wouldn’t look out of place in a David Lynch remake of Galaxy Quest , the couple’s instinct is to bolt.
Out of their loved spurred a half-breed named Arthur, who would obviously grow up to fight alongside Willem Dafoe’s Jedi-like master Vulko (who looks like a rejected alien from “Galaxy Quest”) and the Poison-Ivy looking Mera (Amber Heard - looking distressed and lost).
The villains, while correctly cartoonish, don't fare quite as well with Alan Cumming ("Company Man," "Get Carter") playing an odd sort of Captain Kangaroo mixed with Pee Wee Herman role, Tony Shalhoub ("Galaxy Quest," "A Civil Action") embodying his appropriately titled minion, and Robert Patrick ("All the Pretty Horses," "Terminator 2: Judgement Day") as the head villain.
Unfortunately, the assignment turns out to be a trap set by villainous Fegan Floop (Nicely played by Alan Cumming, "Get Carter") and his accomplice, Mr. Minion (Tony Shalhoub, "Galaxy Quest").
These scenes are more like a parody of similar moments in Galaxy Quest , itself a send-up of the classic show, so that makes the last portion of this film a send-up of a send-up, which I hardly think were Tyldum and company’s intentions.

It’s kind of like Tony Shaloub’s character in Galaxy Quest.
It plays more like a lost scene from Galaxy Quest than Trek .
Both films are regarded as bona fide classics, and stand as team-up benchmarks, as well as being great examples of the “hired guns save the village” sub-genre (which has its own spin-off sub-genre – “hired pretend guns save the village” featuring the likes of Three Amigos, A Bug’s Life and Galaxy Quest).
