Cooper’s movie reminded me of Shana Feste’s underrated Nashville saga from 2010, “Country Strong,” in which a hopeful male singer under the spell and tutelage of a female superstar comes to realize the underlying contradiction of his aspirations and concludes, “I don’t think that love and fame can live in the same place.”
“Endless Love,” a remake of the 1981 movie starring Brooke Shields, itself an adaptation of the 1979 novel by Scott Spencer, is here to make you fondly reminisce on those first tender days of youthful relationships.

Where The Spectacular Now managed to succeed in showing two teenagers emotionally connecting through intercourse (in all its idiosyncratic and sometimes awkward glory), Endless Love agonizingly fails.
Just make me a promise that when you come home from it, you’ll also seek out recent movies like The Spectacular Now or 500 Days (of Summer), because they tell the same sort of story, but better.
Oh, Jade’s a sheltered, brilliant rich girl and David's a rugged, blue-collar dude needing to win over his gal’s father (Bruce Greenwood), who sees David and screams, “That’s the valet!”? Familiar characters can shine on screen with the right actors and memorable writing, a la “The Spectacular Now.” Directed and co-written by Shana Feste (“Country Strong”), “Endless Love” features not a moment that will have audiences cooing, “Awwwww.”
He’ll probably grow up to be Josh Brolin’s character in Labor Day.
