So, the film fits nicely into the realm of The Bad News Bears or Major League, of underdogs who shock the world.
It combines Major League with the revenge-of-the nerds dynamic of The Social Network, which was also co-scripted by Sorkin.
For a moment the film looks like it is heading into Bad News Bears and Major League territory as it appears a bunch of unwanted misfits are to be the core of the new look team.
It seems absurd on its face to convert Lewis’ tale of front-office wrangling into a sports movie, but Bennett Miller’s shrewd adaptation, scripted by Steven Zaillian and Aaron Sorkin, turns it into Major League for stats wonks.

The movie wants to be "Crimson Tide" meets "Stripes" except Grammer is no Bill Murray.
It's set to "In the Navy" by the Village People, the vintage disco group that appears cavorting around the sub with the cast.
I also thought about those kids who died by imitating the characters in the 1993 film The Program and about the 1995 The Basketball Diaries, which was pulled from video shelves because of similarities to the Columbine High School "Trenchcoat Mob."

To see The Fast And The Furious grow into a billion-dollar franchise is like watching some real-life version of King Ralph or The Beverly Hillbillies, where boorish upstarts burn four-wheeler rubber across marble floors.
The action takes place in England, for some reason, and at one point there’s an attempt to steal the crown, which then segues into a brief remake of “King Ralph,” only starring Minions, because someone involves likes “King Ralph,” maybe?
Somebody brought up "Down Periscope," a near-laughless 1996 military comedy with Kelsey Grammar, so we narrowed our discussion to submarine dramas.
“Coach Carter” isn’t flawless by any means, but thanks to a solid performance from Samuel L. Jackson and some entertaining basketball action sprinkled throughout, the movie earns its place alongside more recent sports films like “ Friday Night Lights ” as a must-have for any fan of classics like “Hoosiers,” “ Major League ” and “Rudy.”
