Hollywood often bum rushes a theme for our amusement, from dueling asteroid movies in the ’90s – “Armageddon” and “Deep Impact” – to the two upcoming “Snow White” movies.
Anderson and co-writer Noah Baumbach’s adaptation of Fantastic Mr. Fox, Roald Dahl’s 1970 children’s novella, begins by paying homage to nearly every Disney children’s book adaptation from Snow White to The Jungle Book to Robin Hood: a stop-motion animated book opens, reminding us to respect the written word behind the story to come.
In fact, “Brave” feels more in line with the canon of Disney Princess stories like “Sleeping Beauty,” “Cinderella” and “Snow White” than the Pixar films.

The scenes of the dwarves throwing plates around in Bilbo's house look like something from Disney's "Snow White"; the wizard Radagast (whom, we're told, is too fond of mushrooms, nudge nudge) comes across like a crunchy hippie clown.
