Although the anthology film has been a mainstay in the horror genre for decades, it’s been a few years since one truly captured the vibe of those classics like Creepshow, Tales From the Crypt or, one of my personal favorites, Tales From the Hood .
Luckily for us, Ryan Spindell has gifted us with an anthology that invokes titans of the subgenre, like Trick r’ Treat and Tales from the Hood .
Spindell puts him front-and-center in an ambitious and impressively stylish horror anthology that also owes a lot to Mario Bava’s Black Sabbath, with Brown acting as the film’s Boris Karloff, serving in the role of storyteller.
Where Potter’s Bluff has its William G Dobbs (in Gary Sherman’s Dead & Buried , 1981), and Morningside has its Tall Man (in Don Coscarelli’s Phantasm , 1979), Raven’s End has Montgomery Dark to take care of the community’s dead – and those left behind.
