In fact, the tone of this sequel is very similar to the first two of that 80s action franchise, where the first movie is dark and serious, and the sequel is much more lighthearted, as is the case with Lethal Weapon 1 and 2.

The Accountant 2 was overdue given the gap from the 2016 original, but the sequel proved more than worth the wait thanks to a fun shift in tone while retaining most of what made the initial film so entertaining.
The Accountant seemed to have fun on accident.
Trading his fondness for strobe lights and heavy metal music for line dancing in orthopedic shoes, Chris teams up with his brother Braxton (Jon Bernthal) to assist Deputy Director Marybeth Medina (Cynthia Addai-Robinson) in solving the murder of retired Treasury Agent Raymond King (J.K. Simmons).
I have to begin by saying that 2016’s “The Accountant” holds special meaning for me.

The original The Accountant gave viewers an autistic hero who many said was portrayed both inaccurately and somewhat thoughtlessly, given that the role was played by a neurotypical actor and falls into the "savant syndrome" clich é. The Accountant 2 doesn't really correct either of those issues…
The first Accountant was essentially a dumpster remix of the operatic ode to male pain that was O’Connor’s 2011 masterpiece Warrior…
O’Connor’s penchant for examining brotherly friction (see: “Warrior,” probably still the director’s greatest achievement)…
I know Gavin O’Connor’s work from watching Miracle, Warrior, and his post-The Accountant reunion with Ben Affleck, The Way Back.

In “The Accountant 2,” however, you might feel like you’re watching a mashup of “48 Hours” and “Rush Hour,” thanks to the rapid-fire jokes and cheeky banter between Affleck and Bernthal (who plays Wolff’s brother).
While some of the humors didn’t work, the two brothers kind of reminded me of the action duos in Lethal Weapon and 48 Hrs.
Imagine 48 Hrs (1982) or Lethal Weapon (1987) but with a brotherly twist.

The Accountant 2 turns into Sicario in its third act, for an elaborate shootout south of the border.
…the movie takes the premise of Rain Man (Reunited Brothers, One Charming, One a Troubled Genius) and the bloody border intrigue of Sicario and asks: Why not both?
This derails the mood, like finding a TikTok dance break in the middle of Prisoners.

Affleck’s more pronounced comedy schtick (which goes a little more Forrest Gump in places)…
This particular sequence, with Affleck dancing in, as Braxton calls them, “Forrest Gump shoes,” feels like an entirely different movie than we bargained for, and not in a good way.
