The film — directed by Jon Watts, who also helmed Holland’s first solo outing Spider-Man: Homecoming — actually marks the actor’s fifth onscreen swing in a role that, from the beginning, seemed to fit him like a tailor-made suit.
Director Jon Watts is back, having helmed 2017’s engaging “Spider-Man: Homecoming,” and proves again he understands what this material is really about.
Happy and Aunt May (Marisa Tomei, “ Spider-Man: Homecoming ”) are more than happy to spend time together, which also adds a bit more complication into Peter's life.
After the John Hughes melodies of Homecoming were such a success, writers Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers and director Jon Watts have continued the motif but aimed a little more angsty with echoes of Some Kind of Wonderful and Sixteen Candles fluttering in the background whilst still maintaining the Ferris Bueller frivolity with some superb gags.

Well, her and the kid sister played by Letitia Wright in “Black Panther.”
I may be in the minority, but I didn’t think that Ryan Coogler (a terrific filmmaker) really managed to explode the template with Black Panther , while the Russo brothers—for all their delusions of Antonioni-ian grandeur—are clearly craftsmen working with massive resources rather than especially subversive or expressive artists.

There are two truly fantastic Spider-Man movies: 2017’s Spider-Man: Homecoming and 2018’s animated gem Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.
