With its chronological jumps, Wrath of Man has something of the feel of Steve McQueen’s Widows , and with its protagonist’s black-eyed determination, it recalls S. Craig Zahler’s Dragged Across Concrete .
Just recently we had Steve McQueen and Gillian Flynn collaborate on Widows and, while that movie is good (if not just slightly above average), it didn’t live up to its potential.

This is not a thriller attacked with the intelligence of Widows (2018) or the style of this year’s John Wick: Chapter 3 .
It may seem like the over-statement of the century, but you can put Steve McQueen's "Widows" in the same category of "Heat" and "The Town," as one of the best heist movies ever made.
A closer comparison is The Town , Ben Affleck’s 2010 crime drama about a thief looking for one last score who falls in love with a bank teller.
The past year has seen a spike in female-led crime pictures, though, with the likes of Ocean’s Eight (2018), Widows (2018), and The Kitchen (2019) leading the charge, and while they vary in quality the other common thread between them is the added wrinkle of the women taking out at least some of their frustrations on the men in and around their lives.
