What critics say influenced Scary Movie
Calling it simply Scary Movie, no number, is itself a requel move, the same naming reset as Halloween (2018) or Scream (2022)…
This might parallel Scream (2022), limiting Neve Campbell and Courtney Cox…
…so named because she’s playing the analog for Jenna Ortega in Scream, and Ortega is also the star of Netflix’s Wednesday. Ha.
The sixth installment of the Scary Movie series drops the number from its official title, much in the same way that Scream 5 was just called Scream.
In particular, the film structures itself similarly to Scream (2022), with commentary made on “Elevated Horror” and “Elevated Comedy.”
Besides an admittedly clever opening sequence that mirrors one of the recent Scream films…
Radio Silence’s Scream 5 and VI…
I also don’t think the filmmakers even understood what The Substance was about, because it’s all used for a lame joke; leaving so much meat on the bone in the process.
…politically incorrect fun of “Terrifier 3,” “Smile,” “M3GAN,” “Get Out,” “Longlegs,” “The Substance” and “Sinners.”
The Substance (most of which are parodied here)…
…to “The Substance,”…
…así como también utilizando algunos recursos efectivos de alguna que otra película que parodian (el momento en que recrean la transformación de «La sustancia» está bien construido desde lo narrativo y también desde lo autorreferencial)…
…with targets including Smile, M3GAN, The Substance, Terrifier, Sinners, Get Out, the recent Scream films and numerous others.
Get Out, Halloween 2018, Scream 5 and 6, Terrifier 3, The Substance, and so much more get parodied here.

Some of the selected parodies include Scream 5 & 6, I Know What You Did Last Summer, Get Out, Sinners, Smile, Wednesday, M3gan, Longlegs, and KPop Demon Hunters, to name a few.

It’s the Halloween reboot too. It’s not just Scream.
…riffing on Jamie Lee Curtis’s survivalist badass from the rebooted Halloween movies…
Jamie Lee Curtis’ fright wig from Halloween (2018)…
Cindy (Anna Faris) has become an aloof recluse, à la Jamie Lee Curtis' Laurie Strode in the recent Halloween revival…

…makes other spoof flicks like “Airplane!” and “The Naked Gun” seem sophisticated by comparison…
Y que hoy 'El jovencito Frankenstein' o 'Aterriza como puedas' sean clásicos del cine, también…
For every successful entry (Airplane! Not Another Teen Movie), there’s a corresponding mess of a movie made up of a series of poorly constructed jokes…
Like the Airplane! and Naked Gun star, Faris possesses a superhuman ability to play even the dumbest schtick with total earnestness.
…popularizaría el género en Norteamérica con películas como «¿Y dónde está el piloto?» (1980), «Top Secret!» (1984) y «La pistola desnuda» (1988) que luego tendría dos secuelas más en los ’90.
Maybe it’s because of my early childhood viewing of ZAZ’s (Zucker, Abrahams, Zucker) Airplane!

…one that reached a boiling point last year with Oscar-winning super-hits like Sinners and Weapons…
Weapons…
…tearing through a neighborhood at night ala “Weapons,”…
The Weapons stuff here doesn’t come close to measuring up to what Conan O’Brien did with it to open the Oscars.

It’s not on the same level as last summer’s surprisingly sharp “The Naked Gun,”…
…while Naked Gun (2025) made my top 25 of last year…
There’s been a bit of a resurgence in the spoof genre in recent years, with films like The Naked Gun and Fackham Hall…
The Naked Gun, both the original and last year’s surprisingly great reboot…
The Naked Gun, another Paramount property, did a remarkable job of elevating that franchise's brand of humor to do genuinely new and exciting concepts…

Chris Elliott’s cameo as Shorthand, this movie’s version of Longlegs…
Others, like a riff on Longlegs featuring the great trio of Chris Elliot, Damon Wayans Jr. and Heidi Gardner, work better as far as hitting most of the beats you’d hope from a send-up of the source material, even with limited screen time.
