What critics compared Rebecca to
A triumph of production design, Manderley looks like Wayne Manor, a portrait gallery, and Crimson Peak had a beautiful, haunted baby, with gorgeous rooms upon rooms all filled with ornate, intricate details that were probably painstakingly assembled and placed just right.
But Wheatley—who specializes in thrillers with a macabre vibe, like Kill List (2011) and High-Rise (2015)—overhandles and overworks the dough of Du Maurier’s basic story.

While she tries, Wheatley ( High-Rise , Kill List ) lets his camera gorge on gorgeous period details and eerie atmosphere; there's a vicarious European vacation in nearly every shot.
