What critics say influenced Arrow
…seeing Green Arrow, Black Canary, Speedy, The Flash, Hawkman and Hawkgirl teaming up against one villain is the closest we’ve come to a live action Justice League since those episodes of Smallville with The Flash and Aquaman.
…in a manner that vaguely recalls the way Smallville began assembling members of the Justice League in Season 6…
Additionally, I find it hard not to compare The Flash to Smallville on almost a weekly basis, and this was basically Barry’s version of red kryptonite.
…has been referenced in a variety of sources since, including Smallville…
That’s the pre-episode set-up for Arrow, the superhero show from The CW (the network behind Smallville), which is about to enter its third season.
David Nutter (Smallville)…
…or the show finds a clever get-out option, like 24, whose 24-hour structure left no room for funeral planning or eulogies and allowed the show to kill off characters more or less every other week, just for LOLs…
Rory makes everyone run out of the hangar (to avoid a nuclear bomb, like that time Jack Bauer avoided a nuclear explosion in 24 by hiding behind a rock)…
That ended badly, with a vial of the virus cracking and hissing on the ground, which reminded us of 24, but since Oliver was right next to it at the time, it presumably turned out to be not quite that deadly after all.
Generally speaking, it is a bad idea, both in life and in TV shows to nuke towns (just ask 24), as it’s too big of an event for things to carry on as normal afterwards.
…even if the A.T.O.M. suit is currently little more than an Iron Man knock-off.
(Actually, that bit is completely stolen from Iron Man, but that doesn’t make it any less cool or effective.)
Personally, we won’t be happy until we see the A.T.O.M suit’s shrinking powers – at the moment, it’s a bit too similar to Iron Man.
Occasionally, you’ll get an exception – The Body in Buffy the Vampire Slayer (one of the stand-out episodes of any television show)…
…like the endless stream of Principals at Buffy the Vampire Slayer’s high school…

…so they stage a two-woman rescue mission, going all Die Hard in the STAR Labs ventilation ducts…
The episode also gets great mileage out of having Thea, Donna and Felicity teaming up and sneaking around inside the Palmer Tech building, Die-Hard-style…
…including Arrow Season 3 and The Flash on Sky 1…
The pass also covers other Sky TV shows, including The Flash and The Walking Dead Season 5.
Step forward crime lord Tobias Church (played by The Wire / The Walking Dead’s Chad L. Coleman)…
It has to be said, it’s a pretty spectacular fight sequence, even if you can occasionally see the stunt man, like old episodes of Star Trek.
…since both she and Moira Queen actress Susanna Thompson played Borg characters on Star Trek…
…a very cool overhead shot of his body that’s lifted from the poster for Hitchcock’s Vertigo…

Thea goes on a break with “political operative” Alex that quickly turns into an episode of The Twilight Zone.
…they immediately trigger a load of Indiana Jones-style booby traps…
