It edges into the non-sequitur weirdness of Quentin Dupieux ("Rubber," "Wrong") and the fantastical romantic yearning of Michel Gondry ("Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind") but doesn't persuasively mint a uniquely "Daniels" brand of oddity.
