It seems she has the capacity to literally shed her own skin, so fully does she step into her roles, with three Oscar nominations starting with her breakout in 2005's "Brokeback Mountain."
It’d be a frigid viewer indeed who didn’t sigh for her in Brokeback Mountain or Blue Valentine, and her Oscar-nominated turn as Marilyn Monroe had that vulnerable, poor-me quality nailed.
Although shades of 500 Days of Summer (2009), or, more particularly, Take This Waltz (2011) might feel immediately evident, The Worst Person in the World feels more comprehensive, more formidable in its complexities than many contemporaries—it’s a hard won feat to seamlessly capture the difficulty of getting what you thought you wanted only to realize it’s not what you want or need.
Similar to Sarah Polley’s Take This Waltz , the narrative sees our heroine possess a lack of clarity with a subtle degree of selfishness but Julie’s struggle is a relatable one: does she want children, should she want them or is she expected to have them?
Their sex is passionate, creative, frequent and takes place all over Toronto, which hasn’t looked this gemlike gorgeous on camera since Sarah Polley’s Take This Waltz.
