A lot of that comes from Foxx and Franco’s dynamic, which is somewhat reminiscent of the one Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones shared in Men in Black .
Akin to the relationship between Tommy Lee Jones and Will Smith in “Men in Black,” Foxx is Jones’s Kay to Franco’s Jay, the mentor and the student who initially despise one other but eventually become good friends and grow to respect each other.
For money, Bud pulls out the fangs of vamps he has dispatched, then sells them on the black market to a trashy store owner (Peter Stormare, Until Dawn , Constantine ).
The rapper looks like he’s legitimately having the time of his life in an action role, and like Christopher Lloyd in Nobody , he seems like he’s relishing the chance to do something no one ever expected from him.
Netflix’s Day Shift is the directorial debut of J. J. Perry, who had previously worked as a stunt coordinator on films like John Wick: Chapter 2 and the Fast and Furious series.
