Clearly, the filmmakers have seen lots of other classic scary movies; while the homages are restrained, savvy viewers will catch visual nods to Aliens , Terminator 2 , Jaws , Halloween , and, of course, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre original.
The film also has a weird amount of homage to Terminator 2 (Melody’s leg wound and the shotgun blasts to Leatherface by the water being similar to Sarah Connor’s showdown with the T-1000 near the end of T2 ).
She also gets a shotgun moment reminiscent of Linda Hamilton in Terminator 2, so hopefully, she gets another chance to show off her survivalist chops in stronger material.
Idealistic sisters Melody (Sarah Yarkin; Happy Death Day 2U ) and Lila (Elsie Fisher; Castle Rock ) have made their way to Harlow, Texas, with their good friend and business partner, Dante (Jacob Latimore; The Maze Runner ).
Also along for the journey is the other chef, Dante (Jacob Latimore, The Maze Runner ), and his blonde girlfriend, Ruth (Nell Hudson).
Director David Blue Garcia, working with a team that includes writer-producers Fede Alvarez and Rodo Sayagues ("Don't Breathe," 2013's "Evil Dead" remake), keeps things simple, pointed and roaring.

The only reason this one was mildly interesting in the first place was the involvement of Eighth Grade breakout Elsie Fisher, who gets to do little else besides slouch around, and the filmmaking duo Fede Alvarez and Rodo Sayagues, who previously worked on the Evil Dead reboot, but more impressively, are behind the two Don’t Breathe movies.
