What critics compared Julie & Julia to
Simplified to only the two eponymous leads (and very smartly edited by Richard Marks, who knows a thing or two about temporal shifts from cutting The Godfather: Part II), we get to explore a great many themes in these two hours, which is why, in addition to the movie's many broad knee-slappers, I can confidently recommend Julie & Julia to the half of the world's population which is going to drag the other half in anyway.
Of all the supporting players popping up, most are underutilized, though Jane Lynch (2009's " Julie & Julia ") is a memorable bright spot as a friendly waitress at an alien-themed roadside cafe Graeme and Clive stop at.
She can toss off zingers with the best of them and she's up against some formidable talent, beginning with Patricia Clarkson ("Cairo Time") and Stanley Tucci ("Julie & Julia") as her hilariously irreverent, witty and liberal parents.
What blogging was to "Julie & Julia," tweeting is to "Chef."

In last summer's women's picture, the half-perfect "Julie & Julia," Julia Child was an unapologetic giant of appetite, no preaching required.
Those outside the elevator are of even lesser importance and are only there to give audiences a reprieve from the goings on within the lift, like the detective with a tortured past and a drinking problem (Chris Messina, Julie & Julia), aiming for stoic heroism, but generally wasted.
Chris Messina (Greenberg, Julie & Julia) plays Detective Bowden, the police detective who is called down to the scene and soon finds himself waist-deep in something he never expected.
The script, by Brian Nelson ( 30 Days of Night ) from a story by M. Night Shyamalan ( The Last Airbender ), veers from the intensely banal -- I had plenty of time to wonder where the building management was in all of this, especially after the cops (led by Chris Messina’s [ Julie & Julia ] detective) and the fire department close down the entire city block surrounding the building -- to the impossibly ludicrous: the building engineer survives an elevator falling on him!
Plus, before the elevator, we meet haunted Detective Bowden (Chris Messina of “Julie & Julia’’), whose family recently died in a hit-and-run accident.
This really has very little to do with the story, but it gets the police there—specifically, Detective Bowden (Chris Messina, Julie & Julia)—so it’s functional in that regard.
It is no more about science than Pollock was about painting or Julie & Julia was about cooking, and less than A Beautiful Mind was about mathematics.
