Hellboy, his pyrokinetic girlfriend, Liz, and aquatic empath, Abe Sapien, face their biggest battle when an underworld elven prince plans to reclaim Earth for his magical kindred. Tired of living in the shadow of humans, Prince Nuada tries to awaken an ancient force of killing machines, the all-powerful Golden Army, to clear the way for fantasy creatures to roam free. Only Hellboy can stop the dark prince and prevent humanity's annihilation.

Godzilla rouses to fight a pair of monsters seeking a place to mate (an interest Edwards ports over from his own Monsters ), and Edwards even gives the "mother" beast a moment that reminds a great deal of the pitiful death of the Earth Elemental in Hellboy II .
As in Hellboy II , del Toro incorporates both the modern notion of winged angels, and the ancient concept of them as many-eyed monstrosities.
With her quartet of feathered wings, each jeweled with eyes, she’s a dead ringer for Doug Jones’s Angel of Death from del Toro’s Hellboy II: The Golden Army , and scarcely a blink away from the macabre.
The creature that gives Pinocchio life is not a traditional fairy, but a frightening and hauntingly beautiful being that looks like a biblically accurate angel, with wings filled with eyes — more like the Angel of Death from “Hellboy II.”
