Memories Of Murder's urban-cop-meets-hick-cop dynamic recalls the 1992 neo-noir gem One False Move, though unlike Bill Paxton's backwater sheriff in the earlier film, Song and Kim Rwe-ha have no real interest in impressing (or even accommodating) their more seasoned counterpart.
The only antecedents that come to mind, in which the detectives serve a corrupt power and are blind to its injustices, but acknowledge a moral order and seek to apprehend or kill the pervert who violates it, would be "The Night of the Generals," about a police officer hunting a sex criminal in the Nazi general staff, and "In the Heat of the Night," where Rod Steiger is a bigoted lawman who must work with an African American detective played by Sidney Poitier to solve a crime.

Detective Park and Inspector Jo are no gritty "Dirty Harry" cops, but neither are they kooky Keystone Kops.
In Memories of Murder the genre should be familiar if you’ve seen flicks like Dirty Harry or Silence of the Lambs.
Nearly every region on the planet has their own version of it, and after the success of The Silence of the Lambs and Se7en, one would be hard-pressed to find another film to introduce any kind of freshness or lasting impact to the genre.
