The series at times comes to suggest The Wire, only set in the cosmos, or a George R.R. Martin-style space opera, underscoring the mundane immorality of the imperial servants who spend their days filling out reports rather than battling Jedi.
From racism and incel culture to America’s epidemic of gun violence, The Pitt Season 1 was The Wire-esque in its portrait of a country — and an emergency room — straining at the seams.
The third and fourth episodes, which deserved to be stretched over a full season, are also borderline The Wire-esque, because they weave in budgetary crises and expose faltering institutions across Westeros — failings of bureaucracy that happen because the country is ruled by battling oligarchs who couldn’t care less about the 99 percent.
Those hungry for a prestige procedural, as fans of the channel that brought us The Wire and Mare of Easttown can rest easy, even if they may be quick to raise an eyebrow over its DC trappings.
