Tape (2001)

Jon, a first-time filmmaker, finds himself in Lansing, Michigan to present his film at a local film festival. Vince, his high school friend who is now a volunteer fireman and small-time drug dealer, also visits the town to support Jon on his big day, or so it seems. After a raucous hello and much backslapping, it appears that there is an undercurrent of tension in the air.

But it is in Slacker (1991), Dazed and Confused (1993), Before Sunrise (1995), SubUrbia (1997), Tape (2001), and now Before Sunset, an inspired sequel to Before Sunrise.
Romantic relationships don't get filmed any better than Richard Linklater's ("Slacker"/"Dazed and Confused"/ "Tape") Before Sunset, which is a sequel that matches in quality his wonderfully delirious 1995 Before Sunrise.
Linklater has the same belief, as he's shown in films as different as the dreamlike "Waking Life," the minimalist "Tape," and last year's "School of Rock."
Which is amazing, because Tape , Waking Life , School of Rock , this is a pretty diverse portfolio of work.
An often underrated director, ever since breaking through with Dazed and Confused Linklater has effortlessly bounced between inventive independent work like Tape, Before Sunrise, Before Sunset (as well as the aforementioned Waking Life) and crowed-pleasing studio films such as School of Rock and Bad News Bears.
