Instead of exhausting me with joke after joke, like There’s Something About Mary, Road Trip made me wait for every joke, and I dutifully anticipated each one.
It certainly doesn't match the genre-establishing status of "National Lampoon's Animal House" or the giddy originality of "There's Something About Mary."

Absent from films for quite a while while he starred in Broadway's Tony Award Winner, "Rent," it is nice to see Anthony Rapp (1987's "Adventures in Babysitting") again, this time playing a creepy Ithaca student who grows progressively jealous of Josh when Beth is stolen from his grasp (nevermind that she has no interest at all in him, anyway).

Stop me if the plot of "Road Trip" sounds familiar; you may have channel surfed into 1998's "Overnight Delivery" with Paul Rudd and Reese Witherspoon at one time or another on your local cable network.
Occasionally, however, you have one like Ferris Bueller's Day Off, or Detroit Rock City , or Road Trip, which, though they don't exactly present an intellectual treatise, are at least well-written and well-performed.

It’s nice to see that the cast have grown into themselves a bit though, especially Jason Biggs and Seann William Scott — the latter now a bona fide teen icon after two years’s worth of lead roles in films like Final Destination, Road Trip and Dude, Where’s My Car?.

Last year, American Pie re-invented the genre, albeit with more wit, moxie, and forthrightness than anything in the '80s ever showed.
