Richard Martin buys a gift, a new NDR-114 robot. The product is named Andrew by the youngest of the family's children. "Bicentennial Man" follows the life and times of Andrew, a robot purchased as a household appliance programmed to perform menial tasks. As Andrew begins to experience emotions and creative thought, the Martin family soon discovers they don't have an ordinary robot.

What critics compared Bicentennial Man to
As far as science fiction films go, Finch is not entirely new, where movies such as Short Circuit , Her , and Bicentennial Man have focused on the relationships of humans and robots.
A robot teaching on-screen humans — and off-screen ones as well — about the nature of humanity may be nothing new (see 2001’s A.I. Artificial Intelligence , 1999’s The Iron Giant , 2008’s Wall-E , 1999’s Bicentennial Man , 2014’s Ex Machina , ad infinitum), but Finch manages to feel fresh despite all the cinematic machines we’ve seen before.
Finch fits in with those films that show the nicer, kinder side of robots – Bicentennial Man , Short Circuit , Silent Running , A.I. , Wall-E , Interstellar ) – though the droid featured here, named Jeff, is more anthropomorphized than most – so much so we see his chest heave, as though he can breathe.
Despite impressive visuals and ScarJo pulling off a robotic performance to beat Robin Williams in Bicentennial Man, Ghost in the Shell avoids plumbing the moral depths and complexities as far as you might expect.
Baymax evidences the same kindness as the robot played by Robin Williams in Bicentennial Man whose mantra is "glad to be of service."
Like Short Circuit, Wall-E, and Bicentennial Man, Chappie's success depends on our connection to the impressionable and innocent robot, even, in this instance, when he's trained to do bad things.

M3GAN is essentially a modernized version of Chucky (fused with hints of “Bicentennial Man” and “Ex Machina”), but mixed with the aesthetics of Alita.
Cuaron's resume all but guarantees he'll be given the free ride that Columbus never enjoyed: After all, he's responsible for such critical smashes as Y Tu Mama Tambien and A Little Princess while Columbus has yet to live down the shame of Bicentennial Man and subjecting us to several years of Macaulay Culkin via those infernal Home Alone flicks.
For no other reason than the fact that the directorial reins of the Harry Potter series have been passed from the hands of Chris Columbus, as mild and unthreatening of a filmmaker as you could possibly imagine (besides the first two "Potter" films, he also directed the first two "Home Alone" movies, "Bicentennial Man" and "Adventures in Babysitting"), to Alfonso Cuaron, who received considerable acclaim for such bold works as the visually sumptuous "A Little Princess" and "Y Tu Mama Tambien", critics have been describing "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban" as being the "darkest" entry of the series.
After John Travolta and Robin Williams were paid many millions to appear inside unrecognizable makeup in " Battlefield Earth " and " Bicentennial Man ," respectively, did it occur to anyone that when audiences go to a movie with a big star, they buy their tickets in the hopes of being able to see that star?
