What critics compared High Art to
Mitchell, who was so effective in High Art, seems to be struggling with her character's contradictions, while her more charismatic costar Claudia Black (of the Sci-Fi Channel's Farscape) doesn't get to do much.
Vin Diesel ( Saving Private Ryan , Boiler Room ), who is waiting for something better to come along, and Radha Mitchell ( High Art ), who barely pretends an interest, star as the two leaders of a crew of space travellers marooned on a sinister planet.
Radha Mitchell, last seen as the young woman who falls for Ally Sheedy in 1998's "High Art," delivers the goods as Fry literally matures as events unfold.
The alien and space-flight FX are impressive, and Diesel and fly girl Radha Mitchell (High Art) are likable, but the cheap cinematography and a story line that's been pitched too many times already signal a career in eclipse.
More importantly, the film editing is top-notch, pulling the situation together in near-wordless fashion as we watch the ship's pilot (Radha Mitchell, from High Art ) in screen-filling close-up, calculating her odds of survival.
The survivors include baby-faced pilot Fry (Radha Mitchell, from High Art), spiritual Imam (Keith David, from There's Something About Mary), and law enforcement officer Johns (Cole Hauser, from Good Will Hunting and The Hi-Lo Country).
Stated compactly, and sorry if it spoils a little bit of plot, the final two hours of The Green Mile find Coffey healing three characters—Paul Edgecomb, the warden's terminally ill wife (played my High Art 's luminous Patricia Clarkson), and the pet mouse of a fellow inmate—from various states of disease before he is finally put to death in the electric chair.
