This second feature by Spanish director Alejandro Amenabar, Abre los Ojos (Open Your Eyes) is a virtual remake of Hitchcock's Vertigo.
The central characters, the Lothario Cesar (Eduardo Noriega), the Fatal Attraction's Glenn Close-wannabe Nuria, the Beauty and the Beast's Belle Sofia seem familiar because we have seen their types before, and Amenabar takes them into territory that has been similarly well explored.
While not quite in the same league as Tykwer's Run Lola Run , Open Your Eyes is in the same stylish vein, and stands as an intriguing counterpoint to the more intellectually profound but stylistically muted work of Dogme 95 pioneer Lars von Trier (Breaking the Waves, Celebration).
