What critics compared Memories to
Meticulously detailed, dangerously surreal, and immensely intriguing, his films are easily some of the best work in the business; Perfect Blue, Millennium Actress, Tokyo Godfathers , and his Memories segment all demand multiple viewings in order to obtain a true appreciation.
I liked his movies “Perfect Blue” and “Tokyo Godfathers”, and enjoyed his work on “Memories” but was most impressed by his collaboration with Mamoru Oshii, doing some of the character designs for the excellent “Patlabor 2”.
In Magnetic Rose (a segment he wrote for Katsuhiro Otomos trilogy Memories), the blurring occurs between memory and reality.
