Robin Hood comes home after fighting in the Crusades to learn that the noble King Richard is in exile and that the despotic King John now rules England, with the help of the Sheriff of Rottingham. Robin Hood assembles a band of fellow patriots to do battle with King John and the Sheriff.

The buzz: Unless you count Mel Brooks’ 1993 satire “Robin Hood: Men in Tights,” the story of Robin Hood hasn’t been told on the big screen since 1991’s successful but often mocked Kevin Costner vehicle “Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves.”
Crowe told journalists he was attracted to the project, which he also co-produced, because it promised to be unlike any Robin Hood film he's ever seen — and he's seen them all, from the derring-do of the Errol Flynn and Douglas Fairbanks movies to the Mel Brooks satire of Robin Hood: Men In Tights.
