With the aid of his girlfriend, Phyllis Potter, and best friend, Loomis, Grimm enters a Manhattan bank dressed as a clown, creates a hostage situation and executes a flawless robbery. The only thing left for the trio to do is make their getaway out of the city and to the airport. It sounds simple enough, but it seems that fate deserts them immediately after the bank heist. One mishap after another conspires to keep these robbers from reaching freedom.

What critics compared Quick Change to
It's as entertaining a heist movie as Dog Day Afternoon (1975) or Quick Change (1990).
His plan for getting in and out of the bank is pretty much right outta Quick Change but with less Bill Murray-style wiseacreing (Washington’s detective prefers to invoke Dog Day Afternoon), and his real reason for attacking the bank of course has nothing to do with money... or not much, anyway, cuz this is a postmodern heist film that knows we’ve all seen every heist film ever made and need more than a merely greedy bad guy to keep our interest.
Put it this way—if you see only one movie this weekend featuring an anguished clown trying to navigate his way through a city on the edge of collapse that seems determined to thwart him at every turn until he turns into a criminal, make it a rental of “Quick Change” and leave this nonsense aside.
