Valmont (1989)

Set in Baroque France, a scheming widow and her lover make a bet regarding the corruption of a recently married woman. The lover, Valmont, bets that he can seduce her, even though she is an honorable woman. If he wins, he can have his lover to do as he will. However, in the process of seducing the married woman, Valmont falls in love.

In a variety of retellings most recently Stephen Frears's "Dangerous Liaisons" and Milos Forman's "Valmont" this 18th-century epistolary novel by Pierre Choderlos De Laclos gaily shocks the choir, affronts the vicar and titillates all hedonists too lazy to awake on Sunday morn.
Rather, pair Valmont up with Patrice Leconte’s fantastic 1996 film Ridicule or even the fun modern American update Cruel Intentions .
Valmont, Milos Forman ’s underrated follow-up to his brilliant Amadeus , is a better film than Dangerous Liaisons.

His credits include " One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest " and " Amadeus ," both winners of the Academy Award as the year's best picture.
